A scenic picture of the mountains to highlight the question is it really worth travelling shoulder season to save money?

Does Travelling Shoulder Season Really Save You A lot of Money?

Does travelling shoulder season really save you a lot of money? The obvious answer is yes but for many shoulder season is not the ideal time. Why? The biggest reason is the weather. Maybe it is not hot enough and it is very rainy. Perhaps a lot of the tourist attractions are not open yet. All these reasons are legitimate. However, for most of us, money is getting tighter. As we have seen in the last few years, prices are rising on everything including travel. So many of us have to be more prudent in spending. This includes travelling somewhere perhaps during shoulder season. Let me show you one example of why it is worth it.

Travelling Shoulder Season Can Save you A lot of money!

Back in April of this year, my wife and I took a trip to Canmore Alberta to spend a couple of nights in the mountains. We stayed at our favorite place the The Stoneridge Mountain Resort. For two nights, we paid about $220.00 night for a one bedroom apartment. It was a pretty sweet deal and the condo was beautiful with a large fire place and mountain views! We could not have asked for better. It was not very warm but it wasn’t too cold either. We could walk around and there was still snow on the ground and in the mountains. It was lovely.

Now if you want to go to the Stoneridge next week, it would be considered high season. However, it is not peak season as peak season goes from June till labor day weekend. So next week would be a bit less. However, if you want to go the same place for two nights, it will cost you $669.00 per night for a total of $1489.00 with taxes included! So you would have to pay over a $1000.00 more for the same trip. That is a huge difference! And that is why we try to travel shoulder season as much as we can because the savings are huge.

Conclusion

It is worth travelling shoulder season. If you had decided to travel to the same place in July and August, you would have been paying over $1000.00 per night! However, not every place has the same shoulder or low seasons. So that means you will have to do a little research to see when these times are. You might not have the ideal weather or amenities but you still can have an awesome trip.
