Are you a natural thrifter? I’ve been one ever since my teens when my Nanny (grandma) taught me all about finding amazing things for a fraction of the price. And now, I’m even trying to turn those cool finds into a little profit for myself. I mean, what could be better, right? Taking something I already love – thrifting – and then keeping some goodies for myself, and passing some along to others at a bit of a profit. Win win!
This week I have an interesting mix of finds for you guys…including one that I dind’t know was as valuable as it was! I’m talking 17x the price I paid is what it’s actually worth. You’d never guess it by just looking at it either. So, let’s go!

See? It’s a bit of an interesting blend – I bought four items for a total (before our 5% GST tax) of $9.00.
I bought:
- Star Wars felt characters crafting kit Paid $5.00
- Vintage (from 1997 – a wee craft store here in Calgary that had been called Joan’s Creations) applique series fabric craft pattern. Was $4.00 but was a green tag (50% off that day) and so I got it for $2.
- Staples 5 7/8 x 95/8″ Quickstrip closure white envelopes $1.00
- Ambiente brand Elegance pale lavender napkins $1.00
Star Wars felt craft kit

I mean, come on!! This is adorable for a Star Wars fan, of which I hope there are many around here. Haha Seems to be completely intact and with all original pieces. Those little characters look adorable if you ask me.
Regular retail price tag on the package was $24.98, I paid $5 and am asking for $12.00 on Kijiji. I originally thought I’d try for $15.00, but I think that might be pushing it a bit.
Like them? Would you have grabbed them too?
Joan’s Own Creations craft pattern – “The Garden Gate”

The back of this cute craft pattern (from 1997!!) says it came from a store called Joan’s Own Creations at 264 Riverstone Place S..E. in Calgary. (I seriously need to look that up on Google Maps and see what it is now.)
The vintage price tag is still on it, and this craft pattern is unopened. Regular retail WAAAAY back then was $12.98. Goodwill’s price was $4.00 but this was another 50% off find – so I paid $2.00. Asking for $6.00 for this beauty.
I loved that this was an old pattern right from here in Calgary, AB. Cool!
Ambiente lavender napkins

Okay, so maybe this isn’t the most exciting thing you’ll see all day. Hahaha But, decent branded napkins are not cheap – so I like to grab them when I see them at Goodwill. Looking briefly online I saw that this brand has napkins ranging anywhere in price from $4-$20+. So, a buck seems like a great deal to me. I believe that makes them $0.05 per napkin.
Surprise find – Staples Quickstrip closure 5 7/8 x 9 5/8″ white envelopes

This perfect pack of 25 envelopes – a sort of medium size – was only $1.00. But when I did a search on Staples own website the price was – wait for it…. – $17.49!!! Wowsers. I knew Staples was expensive, but this made my find the SURPRISE find of the week. I like having extra envelopes on hand, especially since my Mom and I have this greeting card exchange thing going on. And sometimes I might have an oversized vintage card that doesn’t quite fit in the envelope I have available.
So these will be ideal! And my price is $0.04 per envelope, instead of whatever that crazy figure Staples was originally charging for them would work out to be. (Feel free to do the match, I just can’t be bothered. haha)

See what I’m talking about? And the crazy thing was that Goodwill had a pack of 100 available too. Can’t remember the price right now, but I remember that this seemed the better bargain overall. And I only, frankly, wanted to spend a dollar on envelopes. 😉
Did you find anything cool thrifting this week?
Let us know in the comments! And let me know in either the comments or by emailing me at admin@bargainblog.ca if you’re interested in buying the craft kits. 🙂 Thanks guys!
