Yes, I said it! You can cook a delicious corn on the cob in under five minutes total, start to finish. I was taught this last year, and ever since I’ve been telling everyone I know about this uber easy way to make corn. Don’t bother bringing out your big cooking pots, because this is done in the microwave.
It couldn’t be any easier! I used to cook corn in the microwave by first taking off the leaves and all the corn silk (those golden threads that can actually be very difficult to remove) and then wrapping in a slightly moistened paper towel. That does work! But I have an easier way.
- Pop a piece of corn with all of its leaves intact onto a microwave safe plate.
- Microwave for 1-2 minutes per side, depending on the power level of your microwave. I do find the corn cooks more evenly if you cook it for the 1-2 minutes, then flip and continue cooking for another 1-2 minutes. My microwave is apparently a weakling, and it needs the full 2 minutes per side.
- You’ll need longer time for a larger corn on the cob, and less for a really small guy.
- Let sit for a few minutes once done.
- Remove all the leaves and corn silk – the steaming action as the corn cooks in the microwave will make all of this SO EASY to remove!!! It’s one of the coolest things. But, it is also HOT~ So please use a silicone pincher or oven mitt or something to protect your hands as otherwise you could get burnt.
- Eat your corn. That’s eat! I mean, that’s it! 😉 Haha That was a typo, but I decided it looked cute so it shall remain forever more.
- The corn leaves naturally insulates the corn and helps it to cook without needing anything else wrapped around it. You can do multiple cobs of corn at the same time, just increase the time of cooking.
